NATALYA Pavchinskaya has a fierce devotion to the arts, which she now brings to her luxury estate, The Sanchaya.
The entrepreneur spent many years surrounded by spectacular photographers, artists and creative visionaries, from which she drew inspiration to conceptualise the stylish property in Bintan.
With a vision to merge these two worlds, The Sanchaya will serve as a platform for emerging creatives, bringing together artists, film producers, musicians, fashion designers, photographers and others who can use the inspiring grounds as a blank canvas from which to spark fresh ideas, perform, host events or develop installations.
To kick off the initiative, last week The Sanchaya hosted the first of what will become a series of educational film investment summits, in collaboration with S’Ya, Xeitgeist Entertainment Group and Goalpost Pictures Australia, for potential investors and film aficionados.
The exclusive event introduced I Am Woman – a powerful and poignant film telling the story of Helen Reddy, who wrote the song in 1975 and galvanised a generation of women to fight for change.
The thought-provoking film, which is set to start production in September this year, and premiere in 2020, was presented by the star, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Director, Unjoo Moon, and Producers, Rosemary Blight and Jomon Thomas.
The engaging event also saw the screening of Academy Award Nominee, Dev Patel’s directorial debut, ‘Home Shopper,’ with Dev himself in attendance. The film, of which Natalya is the Executive Producer, premiered at Sundance, and has been selected and screened at 10 major film festivals.
The summit provided a relaxed environment within which the high profile, internationally renowned names were able to cultivate engaging and intense conversations amongst attendees to the stylish backdrop of The Sanchaya.
In addition to the first film investment summit, The Sanchaya has opened up to various other art forms this year by completing its first artist in residence program, commissioning an estate-wide installation and inviting a top classical musician to perform:
• Charlotte Ager, a London-based artist and illustrator, recently completed a 2-week residency at The Sanchaya, creating a body of work inspired by the estate and its abundant nature. The residency was conducted in conjunction with BACCALÀ – an independently published fashion, art and photography magazine from Milan-based fashion photographer, Alessandro Casagrande and LA-based art magazine founder, Scott A. Sant’Angelo. Charlotte’s work is highly influenced by her surroundings, and she uses a variety of materials to create her unique pieces, combining colours and
textures to reinterpret her environment. The colourful pieces are now available for sale in the saloon, with the majority of proceeds going towards The Morris Foundation*.
• A more permanent reminder of The Sanchaya’s involvement in the arts are the triking red Saga Seeds, which are dotted throughout the already stylish estate. The 30 magical giant red fiberglass seeds were initially discovered at the Venice Biennale’s ANIMA MUNDI International Arts Festival
floating down the Rio di Santa Caterina canal, before washing up on the sandy white shores of The Sanchaya. Designed by Kumari Nahappan, the seeds represent the potential to grow and strengthen, while resembling the beauty of nature, having ebbed and flowed with the tides during their journey across the waters.
• Igor Yuzefovich, the internationally acclaimed violinist who has spent the last few years as Concertmaster of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, recently spent a few days performing for guests at The Sanchaya. When not at the helm of one of Asia’s top orchestra’s, he can be seen and heard in appearances as frequent guest concertmaster with respected orchestras around the world such as the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic, Houston Symphony and London Philharmonic. Yuzefovich began studying music aged five years old, and has since performed across the world, winning numerous competitions throughout his career. He was joined at The Sanchaya by Richard Bamping; the Principal Cellist of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra since 1993. Described as his ‘soulmate,’ Richard’s cello was made in 1674 by master Italian luthier, Andrea Guarneri, and has an estimated worth of US$3 million.
