Lathi Goes Viral: Weird Genius breaks records on Spotify

INDONESIAN EDM trio Weird Genius’ Lathi featuring Sara Fajira has broken a record on Spotify in Indonesia to be the longest-running No. 1 local track on the Indonesia Top 50 chart.

Retaining its position for six weeks since May 10, 2020, Lathi has outlasted the previous record-holder - Hindia’s Secukupnya, which sat at the top for four consecutive weeks earlier this year. The track also made it to No.1 on Malaysia Viral 50 in May 2020 proving to be a hit in the local scene.

Released in late Feb 2020, the track was a slow burn; Spotify data shows its popularity bubbling since March and April, landing on popular local Spotify playlists like Lantai Dansa, Top Hits Indonesia before eventually earning its No.1 spot on the Indonesia Top 50 chart on May 10 onwards.

The popularity of Lathi has since transcended borders with its cross-cultural fame, reaching countries like Singapore (No.1 on Singapore Viral 50chart in June 2020), Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The single had also entered the Spotify’s Global Viral 50 chart peaking at No.2 and to top it all off, Lathi is also currently featured in one of Spotify’s hottest global playlists, Teen Party, with a whopping 3+ million followers from around the world.

“There’s a treasure trove of talent emerging in Indonesia and we’re proud to support artists like Weird Genius that represent the incredible diversity and art that comes from the market.
We hope to continue helping more fans discover all kinds of Indonesian artists, genres and songs as well as support and champion more niche local genres to fans in Indonesia and beyond,” says Kossy Ng, Head of Artist and Label Partnerships, Asia, Spotify.

With an eclectic blend of electronic and pop, paired with a signature touch of Javanese sound, Lathi  continues to amaze and surprise listeners from all around Asia and has since amassed more than 19.8M streams on Spotify to date.  - 7KLIK
