MISS SHERLOCK, HBO ASIA'S FIRST JAPANESE DRAMA SERIES


JAPANESE actors, Yuko Takeuchi and Yukiyoshi Ozawa, from HBO Asia’s first Japanese Original drama series, Miss Sherlock, were in Taiwan today to promote the series. 

They will also be attending the red-carpet gala premiere of the series with a preview screening of the first episode, later this evening at Huashan Spot. Miss Sherlock premieres globally on HBO (Astro Ch 411/ HD 431) on Friday, 27 April at 9.00am, with a same day primetime encore at 9.00pm. New episodes will debut at the same time every Friday. 

Non-subscribers and subscribers of HBO across Asia will be able to catch the first episode of Miss Sherlock for free and without any registration required, on HBO Asia’s Miss Sherlock microsite** (http://hboasia.com/miss-sherlock) from April 28 to May 11 with English and local language subtitles***. 




This eight-part, hour-long HBO Asia Original Japanese drama series, a co-production with Hulu in Japan, is a bold interpretation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes, re-envisioned in Japanese and set in modern day Tokyo with the iconic characters – Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, played by women. 

Miss Sherlock stars Yuko Takeuchi (Dog in a Sidecar, Flashforward) as Sherlock, an investigation consultant for the local police, while her crime-solving partner, Dr. Wato Tachibana, is played by Shihori Kanjiya (Chiritotechin, Kuchizuke). Yukiyoshi Ozawa (The Forest, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders) plays Kento Futaba, Sherlock’s older brother and the Executive Secretary to the Prime Minister. 




Other cast regulars in Miss Sherlock include Kenichi Takito (Rhythm and Police, Hanzawa Naoki) who plays crafty Inspector Reimon who tries to leverage Sherlock’s talents to advance his own career;  Tomoya Nakamura (Spinning Kite, The Never-Setting Sun) plays Sergeant Shibata, a conservative male chauvinist who works under Inspector Reimon; Ryohei Otani (Gunman in Joseon, We Married As Job) plays Dr. Wato Tachibana’s potential love interest; and Ran Ito (Garden of the Wind, Doctors: The Ultimate Surgeon) plays Sherlock’s widowed landlord, Kimie Hatano.

Throughout the series, notable Japanese stars will be making guest appearances. They include: Asami Mizukawa, Shuntaro Yanagi, Kazuya Kojima, Houka Kinoshita, Haruka Kinami, Mahiru Konno, Kei Tanaka, Yumi Adachi, Tsutomu Takahashi, Megumi, Rika Izumi, Yasushi Fuchikami, Yuki Yamada and Rinko Kikuchi who is also starring in HBO’s WESTWORLD Season 2 currently on HBO. 




Miss Sherlock is HBO Asia’s eleventh Original production since their first production in 2012. Other upcoming Asian Original productions by HBO Asia include Folklore – a six-part horror anthology series based in six different Asian countries; Grisse – an eight-part hour-long period drama series set in the mid 1800’s within the colonial period of the Dutch East Indies; Master of the White Crane Fist: Wong Yan-Lam and Master of the Nine Dragon Fist: Wong Ching-Ho – the third and fourth instalment of the Chinese language martial arts anthology movie series following previous two instalments that premiered in 2016. 




HBO Asia’s first Japanese drama series, Miss Sherlock, premieres globally on Friday, April 27. Watch it on HBO (Astro Ch 411/ HD 431) at 9am, with a same day primetime encore at 9pm. New episodes will debut at the same time every Friday. 




Episode #1: “The First Case” 
Debut date: Friday, April 27 at 9.00am (SIN) on HBO

Wato Tachibana has just returned to Japan from Syria. Her mentor suddenly dies after his stomach 
explodes at the airport. Consulting detective Miss Sherlock is put on the case.


Episode #2: “Sachiko's Mustache” 
Debut date: Friday, May 4 at 9.00am (SIN) on HBO

A vandal draws a mustache on Sachiko, a famous painting by Saneatsu Kishida. The owner of the painting, Mariko Maibara, approaches Sherlock for help. 


Episode #3: “Lily of the Valley” 
Debut date: Friday, May 11 at 9am (SIN) on HBO

Dr. Hiroshi Watanuki is tortured to get information regarding his top-secret research on a fear-erasing drug.  Reiko Haitani’s identity is stolen by a recruiter looking to gain entry into a pharmaceuticals laboratory. 


Episode #4: “The Wakasugi Family Curse” 
Debut date: Friday, May 18 at 9am (SIN) on HBO

Sakura Wakasugi is found sucking her daughter’s blood, and her family suspects a curse is behind her behavior. Wato visits an exhibit by war photographer Toru Moriya. 


Episode #5: “The Missing Bride” 
Debut date: Friday, May 25 at 9am (SIN) on HBO

Risa Mashima suddenly go missing after her picture-perfect wedding ceremony. Wato learns from Dr. Irikawa that her flashbacks are a symptom of PTSD.


Episode #6: “Stella Maris” 
Debut date: Friday, June 1 at 9am (SIN) on HBO

Yuichi Takayama receives a severed ear in the mail from an unknown sender. Sherlock gets closer to 
understanding the truth behind Stella Maris. 



Episode #7: “Stolen Virus” 
Debut date: Friday, June 8 at 9am (SIN) on HBO

While on the run from the police, Sherlock races against time to stop Akira Moriwaki from infecting Tokyo with a deadly virus. 


Episode #8: “The Dock” 
Debut date: Friday, June 15 at 9am (SIN) on HBO 

After Toru’s death, Wato relies on Dr.Irikawa. Sherlock tries to keep the design for a nuclear warhead from falling into Akira Moriwaki’s hands.
